{"id":1819,"date":"2022-08-28T15:21:13","date_gmt":"2022-08-28T20:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thinkulum.net\/blog\/?p=1819"},"modified":"2022-08-28T15:21:13","modified_gmt":"2022-08-28T20:21:13","slug":"weeknote-for-8-28-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thinkulum.net\/blog\/2022\/08\/28\/weeknote-for-8-28-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Weeknote for 8\/28\/2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Productivity<\/h2>\n<p>\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>I finished replicating most of my Nirvana task management in Notion so that it&#8217;s in a usable state.<\/strong> This week I&#8217;ll integrate the task and project properties I migrated from Nirvana into my existing Bulletproof setup, and maybe I&#8217;ll get back to importing my Evernote notebooks.<\/p>\n<h2>Programming<\/h2>\n<p>\ud83d\ude0e<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Data-Oriented Programming<\/em> by Yehonathan Sharvit (<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.klipse.tech\/tags\/index.html#dop\">author&#8217;s related blog posts<\/a>) affirmed for me that there&#8217;s a disciplined way to part from object-oriented design and manage your software&#8217;s data separately from its functions.<\/strong> I&#8217;m looking forward to trying this style on some project in the near future, and I even feel motivated to learn Clojure at some point (don&#8217;t tell Haskell), since data-oriented programming was inspired by it.<\/p>\n<h2>People skills<\/h2>\n<p>\ud83e\udd14<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Braving the Wilderness<\/em> by Bren\u00e9 Brown was a validating and challenging manifesto on fostering true belonging in our divided society.<\/strong> I was hoping for a bit more detail in her advice, but it was motivating and a little intimidating to hear a vigorous case that the kind of bridging I aspire to is not just a private wish but something I should gather the courage to do.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Art of Gathering<\/em> by Priya Parker (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ppfONdsOkWI\">TED talk<\/a>) gave me a road map for making the meetings and get-togethers I find myself hosting more meaningful.<\/strong> It was refreshingly deep and principle driven and covered a range of gathering types, from the avant-garde (her preference, apparently) to the everyday (my preference).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Productivity \ud83d\ude42 I finished replicating most of my Nirvana task management in Notion so that it&#8217;s in a usable state.
